Scholarship for Study in Netherland

The prestigious HSP Huygens Programme is open to excellent students from all countries of the world. It is aimed at talented students who want to come to the Netherlands in the final phase of their bachelor’s studies or during their master’s studies.

PhD applications can only be accepted from excellent students with the Croatian or Turkish nationality. Furthermore the minister has reserved part of the total budget for excellent students following programmes in Dutch language and literature, or Neerlandistiek.

The Dutch Minister for Education, Culture and Science has made seven million euros available for excellent students coming to the Netherlands under the HSP Huygens Programme. There is no fixed number of available scholarships. The actual number is determined by the total cost of the variable components of the scholarships.
NEW APPLICATION ROUND

The HSP Huygens application round for the 2009-2010 academic year will start on 1 November 2008.

Important: the complete application, both digital and paper dossier, must be received by Nuffic no later than 31 January 2009. Applications that have not been submitted digitally and on paper or applications that are incomplete will not be accepted.
ELIGIBILITY

If you want to take part in the HSP Huygens Programme, you must meet the following requirements.
* You are an excellent student: you have obtained excellent results in all your previous studies and you are in the top 10% of students in your study or research programme.
* You must have already attended a programme of education (e.g. high school or above) in a country outside the Netherlands.
* The Dutch study programme should be registered in CROHO, the Central Register of Higher Education Programmes. You can find this information in the Dutch nomination letter provided by the Dutch host institution.
* You should be in the final phase of your bachelor’s studies, or studying towards a master’s degree in the Netherlands, and your study must be used primarily to earn a degree at the Dutch institution.
* At the start of the academic year (1 September) in which you study in the Netherlands, you must be no older than 35 years of age.
* Scholarships are only awarded for studies lasting at least 6 months, but no longer than 24 months.
* Your studies or research in the Netherlands must constitute a deepening and broadening of your previous studies.
* If you are already a graduate, you must have graduated less than two years ago.
* If you want to do research or practical training, it is possible, but it must form part of your studies (a programme on the CROHO list), i.e. you must receive study credits for it.

SELECTION PROCEDURE

The most important criterion is top quality in all senses of the word. The Minister for Education has appointed a special committee to assess quality. The committee makes its assessment based solely on your application dossier.

There are no selection interviews. All aspects of your application dossier are considered when your application is assessed. The committee considers the following aspects:
* Your study history and pace.
* Your diplomas and grades.
* Your nomination letter.
* Your reference letters.
* The strength of your written motivation setting out why you have chosen this study programme in the Netherlands and the value it can add to your prior education.
* The importance of the Dutch programme for your future career.
* How well the proposed studies match your previous education.
* Extracurricular activities.

You will be informed on the decision of the selection committee as soon as possible after 1 May 2009. The outcome will be published on our website first. We will send all applicants an e-mail explaining how to access this information. You will also receive a letter by regular mail on the outcome of your application.

If you are selected your host institution will in most cases be of service by making arrangements for any practical matters, such as your accommodation, your healthcare insurance and applying for a residence permit.

College Loan
College Loan : The cost of education continues to increase. After you first take advantage of college loan, you may discover you still have significant unmet expenses you need to cover to pay for your education.
College Loan may be a good option to help you fill the gap between what federal, state and school assistance provides and what you actually need in order to afford higher education. Private loans (sometimes called alternative student loans or College Loan) are credit-based consumer loans to be used specifically for paying educational expenses.

College Loans, like auto or home loans, are based on your creditworthiness. Most students will need a creditworthy co-signer such as a parent or other relative in order to obtain a private loan. Terms and conditions applicable to this College Loan vary greatly.
Factors such as interest rate, Annual Percentage Rate (APR), the interest rate, length or repayment, loan minimum and maximum amounts as well as fees should be carefully considered when researching and choosing a College Loan.

One feature of many College Loans is the ability to completely postpone (defer) repayment until you graduate from college, but interest is still accruing. Also, College Loans almost always offer lower interest rates than credit cards.

While we encourage students and families to pursue federal financial aid before considering College Loan, there are many student/family situations where a College Loan is viewed as a preferred alternative. Sometimes parents want their student to be responsible for his/her education. In other cases, the convenience of needing no Federal forms to get needed funds is also a consideration. Whatever your situation may be, know that a College Loan might be an affordable option to help pay your education expenses. Just remember, borrow only what you need and compare your options before you borrow.

How College Prepares You for the Job Market
Some of the key skills and values employers seek from college graduates are good communication skills such as writing, speaking, and interpersonal skills, teamwork, analytical ability, multi tasking, problem solving, and dependability. Workers can develop these skills in a variety of different ways, but college is the place where many inexperienced and green teens transform themselves into highly desirable college graduates and prospective employees.

Why is it so important to put your heart and soul into your college experience? The answer is how seriously you take your college education. Let's take a look at a few top lessons that students or college students have to learn in college or university or even at school tht will make them attractive candidates to prospective employers.

1. A desirable college student or university student must be excellent in speaking/oral communication/presentation. One of the best elective classes you can take in college or university is a public-speaking class, which helps all students get more comfortable speaking before a group.

2. A desirable college student or university student must be excellent in writing skills. Writing well is one of those skills that will benefit you for the rest of your life, both personally and professionally. Employers complain the loudest about the weak writing skills of many university or college graduates so it'd be a very good idea if you take an additional writing course or two and learn to make your writing sparkle.

3. A desirable college student or university student must be excellent in time management. Maybe you are also aware that a few of the busiest students are also among some of the best students at school or college or university? The ability to juggle multiple tasks and projects with multiple deadlines is a top skill employers seek, thus one of the most important self-improvement activities you can undertake in college or university is learning how to manage your time effectively. Employers want college graduates who can juggle multiple tasks and deliver high-quality results on time because in business time is money.

4. A desirable college student or university student must be excellent in research or skills management. There is no better place than college or university to teach you the skills of researching information because of various research assignments.

5. Some students struggle to succeed in university, but sometimes these weaker college or university students make the best employees since they have learned the importance of persevering of never giving up.

6. A desirable college student or university student must have good work ethic or personal productivity. The measure of work ethic in college or university is good grades. Source:quintcareers.com.

Looking for Details on College Loans and Scholarships
Pursuing an initial inquiry into abuses in the student loan industry, the Education Department said it had sent letters to 55 colleges and 23 lenders, asking for details of the colleges’ relationships with lenders. The 55 are winnowed down from an initial round of 921 colleges that were questioned last spring and process many federally backed student loans. At 48 of the colleges, a single lender holds 95 percent of the student loans. Additionally, the department is publishing final rules today in The Federal Register that first proposed in June, barring gifts from lenders to universities, including travel and other perks.

SCHOLARSHIPS

Many people can look to a moment in their past and say, “That was critical. That moment, or that choice, helped define me.” For Caleb Peter Hobart, that moment came after his first year here at Texas A&M when he lost a scholarship.

Caleb is, and always has been, a bright-eyed dreamer. “When I was little I used to look at corn,” the farm boy from Iowa told me. “You know, right before harvest — beautiful weather, leaves are changing, it’s brisk, it’s cool, you’re not sweating like in Texas — and I really would just dream. I wanted to change things.”

When he came to college, like many of his peers, it was with hopes of establishing himself as a future leader in the world of business with the aid of scholarships or student loans.

Yet though his goals were big, and seemingly noble, Caleb ran into his first roadblock as a freshman when, in order to continue receiving his annual scholarship, he was required to answer an essay question: “Name a classmate from a different culture and write about what you could learn from that person.” Caleb had no answer. Texas A&M has several thousand international students, but he had never gotten to know one.

He flopped on the question and lost the scholarship. But that was the moment when his dreams squared off with reality, and his life changed fundamentally. International communication cannot be taught, he realized; it must be lived. It must be breathed. Americans cannot successfully trade with cultures they do not understand.
