The Postdoctoral Fellow will make a vital contribution to the Australian Research Council (ARC) Linkage project entitled: A multidisciplinary research program to assess limiting factors and predict impacts of climate change for endangered Australian orchids. This project represents a partnership between the Australian National University in Canberra, and the Botanic Gardens and Parks Authority (BGPA) and the University of Western Australia (UWA) in Perth. The multidisciplinary team combines expertise spanning the fields of ecology, population genetics, evolutionary biology, conservation biology, natural product chemistry and climate change.SELECTION CRITERIA
A. Qualifications
1. A PhD in natural product chemistry and/or chemical ecology.
B. Experience
1. A clear record of first class research in natural product chemistry and/or chemical ecology as demonstrated by publications.
2. Extensive experience in GC-MS analysis and interpretation, NMR and other analytical procedures for natural product identification. Experience with plant volatiles and GC-EAD is highly desirable.
3. Demonstrated experience in the development of synthetic methods for synthesising novel organic compounds.
4. Demonstrated experience with and willingness to supervise research students.
5. Proven capacity for independent and original research.
C. Attributes
1. Excellent written communication skills as evidenced by the publication of scientific papers and ability to communicate and interact effectively with academic, technical and general staff and students.
2. Ability to work with minimal supervision both independently as well as part of a team.
3. A demonstrated understanding of equal opportunity principles and policies, and a commitment to their application in a university context.
SALARY
$53,935 - $68,413 pa plus 17% superannuation
