The WSL Institute for Snow and Avalanche Research SLF is part of the Swiss Federal Institute for Forest, Snow and Landscape Research WSL and thus of the ETH Domain. WSL focuses on the sustainable use and protection of landscapes and habitats, and a responsible approach to natural hazards. WSL employs approximately 500 people, of whom 130 work at SLF in Davos. PhD-Position in GIS and Statistics
You will analyse historical data of frequent snow avalanches, collect new experimental data, develop a statistical based GIS-procedure for the definition of the initial release conditions of frequent snow avalanches, and publish your results in international scientific journals.
Your qualifications: Master or Diploma in Geography with focus GIS; advanced knowledge of statistical methods; good English writing skills; independent and scientific work style; experience with remote sensing, especially with laser scanning as well as German knowledge are beneficial. You are flexible, a team player and able to perform fieldwork at high alpine experimental sites.
